ON Semiconductor Czech Republic, s.r.o.

Modernization of the V1 building

Scope of work: general designer and contractor
PD processing: 08/2021 – 09/2024
Construction implementation: 11/2021 – 03/2025

Onsemi is engaged in innovative solutions for energy-efficient electronics and offers a comprehensive portfolio of semiconductor components and solutions that have a wide range of uses in the automotive industry, communications technology, computer and industrial technology, consumer and medical electronics, military, aviation and power applications.

For the new high-tech Silicon Carbide Fab, the V1 building in the Onsemi production area was completely renovated and expanded.

As a general designer, we prepared the project documentation in the BIM system, including the activities of a BIM coordinator. We provided the engineering activities related to the processing of the building permit and subsequent changes to the construction before their completion and to ensuring the test operation and final acceptance of the construction.

As a general contractor, we ensured the complete implementation of construction works, i.e. delivery, assembly and completion of construction objects and operational complexes, including the construction of more than 5 500 m2 of cleanrooms. When putting cleanrooms into operation, we carried out complete regulation of HVAC, cooling, heating and qualification of cleanrooms.

The V1 brownfield building was partially reconstructed so that the first ISO 7 cleanrooms could be built and put into operation as soon as possible, within 4 months of the start of demolition work. During this reconstruction, a special stabilization of trusses technology was used for roof static securing of the V1 building by tying of the reinforced concrete trusses by prestressed steel cables.

The second half of the building was demolished during the reconstruction of the first part and a new two-storey extension was built in its place to accommodate the cleanrooms ISO 3 – ISO 7.

The reconstruction of the original building, the construction of its new part and the complete construction of the cleanrooms were carried out in stages with the gradual installation of production technology. The cleanrooms were put into operation in stages and the construction work associated with the construction of other parts of the cleanrooms was carried out while the new production was in operation.

The total area of the new cleanrooms of cleanliness class ISO 3 – ISO 9 (according to ISO 14644–1) is 5 515 m2. Of which the total area of cleanrooms of cleanliness class ISO 3: 1 068 m2, ISO 6: 92 m2, ISO 7: 3 470 m2, ISO 8: 22 m2 and ISO 9: 863 m2.

An extensive part of the work were building technical systems (HVAC, cooling, heating, high and low voltage electrical systems, instrumentation and control systems, SFES, technical gases) and the construction of related technological equipment, transformer stations, HV and LV substations and areas for chemical distribution, waste management and pumping sumps. These technologies were located in other newly built extensions of the V1 building.

The modernized V1 building was designed as an energy-efficient building with an emphasis on reducing the carbon footprint of the building and its operation.

The issue of environmental impacts was comprehensively addressed. The noise and dispersion studies and expert opinions were prepared, on the basis of which the extensive anti-noise and remediation measures were carried out. Furthermore, the process of the Integrated IPPC permit and the permit for use of listed sources was addressed.
